My tribute song to Bert Jansch:
Musicians around the globe are saluting the legendary guitarist and singer song-writer Bert Jansch who would have turned 75 in November 2018. A special guitar, the Yamaha TransAcoustic – the latest incarnation of Bert’s favoured L series, is travelling across continents from artist to artist, enabling musicians to connect with his timeless music and enduring legacy. Each nominated artist on this odyssey, is paying homage by performing a specially created piece, a Bert cover or something directly inspired by Bert to be featured the Bert Jansch Foundation’s dedicated 80 Plays website. See who is taking the guitar on the next step of its journey at https://80plays.bertjanschfoundation
Bert Jansch
He was born i Glasgow, in nineteen forty-three.
Herbert Jansch was his name.
Raised up in West Pilon, Edinburgh, the poorest part of town He took his first steps towards his on-comming fame.
At Howff, the local folk club, he sucked in every tune he heard He invented his own guitar fingerpickingstyle A wave was slowly building up, a new sound being played The front runners began to turn their heads towards this new profile.
“An acoustic counterpart of Jimi Hendrix”, Neil Young once said these words, addressed to Bert’s skills This tousle-haired scotsman who never wanted to be a famous star. He’s gone now, but not his music – and it still gives me chills.
